Little Explorers: Age 2-4 w/ adult
This monthly magical outdoor adventure with your preschooler explores new themes and endless opportunities for discovery in the great outdoors. Connect with nature through the fluttering of butterfly wings and the rustling of leaves beneath tiny feet. Rain or shine, exciting adventures await indoors or outdoors. Engage with your child to create lasting memories and foster a love for the natural world. Younger siblings are welcome too. Instructor: Bartlett Nature Center Staff

Animal Ambassadors: Age 4 and over 

It takes a lot of TLC and care to keep our animal ambassadors here at our nature center happy and healthy. You can see what it takes to care for over 20 important animals for a “behind the scenes” look at our animal care program. Presentations will conclude with a feeding demonstration for that species. Registered participants will be given the opportunity to interact with animal ambassadors and will be seated on the floor on mats. Children 3 & under will be asked to sit with their grown-ups behind them on benches.

Astronomy Starry Nights: Age 5 and over

Embark on an unforgettable celestial journey with our monthly astronomy class at the Bartlett Nature Center, as we transform into a captivating planetarium for one special night each month. Suitable for families with aspiring astronomers aged 5 and up, join us as we explore the wonders of the cosmos. Sky observing is not just encouraged but celebrated, and aspiring astronomers are invited to keep sky journals to record their observations and reflections. Led by the talented astronomer Peggy Hernandez, each session will have captivating indoor learning followed by outdoor exploration (weather permitting) under the star-studded canopy above or a sky tour using Stellarium software and Q and A. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the cosmos and expand your understanding of the universe.

After School Animal Ambassadors: Age 12-17

Help us keep our animals happy and healthy. During an important afterschool act-of-kindness activity, animals must be fed, cleaned, and cared for, and you can support the nature center staff. We have over twenty (20) animals that require a lot of attention. When you leave a nature or animal center, you will be proud to have made a difference in the lives of local wildlife while also learning valuable skills.

Weekday Bird Walks: Age 16 and over
Embark on an immersive journey into the world of avian wonders at the state park, designed to cater to both novice bird enthusiasts and seasoned observers alike. With hands-on equipment assistance, engaging lectures, and outdoor classroom education, participants will gain valuable insights into bird identification skills through sight and song. Whether you’re new to birdwatching or a seasoned enthusiast, these walks offer a unique opportunity to connect with nature and people and deepen your appreciation for our feathered friends. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, dress in layers, and leave pets at home for this enriching and unforgettable experience in nature. For all hikes, meet in the Nature Center, 2054 W. Stearns Road. Events

The Nature Center hosts a variety of special events throughout the year including Earth Day in April, and Winterfest in February of even years. To reach the Bartlett Nature Center call 847-608-3120.

Winterfest: Returns in Winter 2026 

Break your cabin fever and experience winter on the prairie. Adopt-A-Husky will be at the Bartlett Nature Center with their teams of Siberian Huskies and Sleds. Watch as they run our mile trail and learn about the history of dog sledding and the equipment they use. Additional indoor and outdoor activities will be taking place including an Iditarod slideshow presentation, snowshoeing and more. To ensure a safe and fun environment, please leave your own dogs at home. This event is FREE, requires no advanced registration, however donations are welcome. Please call
