Donald H. Schrade Gymnasium

The Donald H. Schrade Gymnasium, located at 694 W. Stearns Road, is a 7,000-square-foot gymnasium available year-round as a multi-sport training center. We are fully equipped to host a wide range of sports games and practices, from soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and much more! We are also an ideal location for birthday parties, sports team picture days, equipment pick-up, registrations, events, meeting space, etc.  Recent improvements include a new gym floor, air conditioning, new/updated program meeting spaces, and a new elevator. General Use

Q. What kind of reservation can I make online?
A. Donald H. Schrade Gymnasium is a 7,000-square-foot gymnasium available year-round as a multi-sport training center. We are fully equipped to host a wide range of sports games and practices, from soccer, basketball, cricket, baseball, softball, lacrosse, pickleball and much more. You can book a birthday party, team practice, pick-up game, or private rental.

Q. How do I make a reservation online?
A. If you’re using a mobile device, download the CatchCorner app and create an account. Choose the “Chicago (Metro Area)” and then search for “Donald H. Schrade Gymnasium” under the featured facilities section. Select your sport category and begin making reservations.
If you’re using a desktop, visit Schrade Gym – Bartlett Park District (bartlettparks.org) and click the CatchCorner Book Online icon. Create an account. Select your sport category and begin making reservations.

Q. How far in advance can I make a reservation?
A. We are currently taking reservations up to 3 months out.

Q. How many hours can I rent the facility for?
A. The facility is rented at a fluctuating, Resident and Regular hourly rate. Reservations are available in 1hr, 1.5hr, and 2hr increments.

Q. How old do I have to be to rent the Donald H. Schrade Gymnasium?
A. Renters must be at least 21 years old to rent the gym.

Q. When can I book the gym online? 
A. The online system allows you to book the gym during business hours, Monday-Friday from 9 am-4:30 pm.

Q. Can I rent equipment?
A. Yes! When booking your reservation, you will be asked if you would like to add-on our “Sports Equipment Package” and any other additional equipment specific to your sport of choice.

Q. What is included in the Sports Equipment Package?
A. Sports Equipment Package:
Two – Soccer Balls
Two – Basketballs
Some Dodgeballs
Two – Footballs
A Kickball
Whiffle Ball Bat

Q. Can I eat and drink in the gym?
A. No. Eating and drinking is prohibited on the gym floor.

Q. Can I rent additional rooms and tables?
A. Yes. When booking your reservation, you will be asked if you would like to add-on tables and additional rooms including batting cages, sky box, and/or training room.

Q. I submitted my reservation request, now what?
A. Rental requests are sent to the facility manager for review. Once the facility manager reviews your request, he/she will approve or deny your request within three hours of when you made your request. If the facility manager needs more information, the manager will contact you. Your credit card will not be charged until your reservation is finalized by the facility manager.

Q. How do I get into the building once my reservation is finalized?
A. A facility attendant will be on-site to open the building and provide sports equipment if applicable.

Q. What type of balls are allowed in the Donald H. Schrade Gymnasium?
A. Indoor balls are allowed. Indoor Baseballs (Jugs Softies, Whiffle Balls and lite flight balls). Indoor Softballs (Jugs Softies 11” and 12” Balls). Soft Indoor Lacrosse Balls. For cricket, tennis ball. No regular outdoor lacrosse balls, hard league baseball and softballs and cricket balls are allowed in the Donald H. Schrade Gymnasium.

Q. Do the basketball baskets adjust?
A. Yes, the baskets can move from 10 ft. to 8 ft. The baskets can be adjusted to 8 ft. for younger children, please ask the facility attendant to adjust them for you.

Birthday Parties

Q.  I want to rent the gym and orchestrate my own games for my child’s birthday party, which sport category do I pick?
A. If you want to utilize the gymnasium for general use and/or sports such as kickball, dodgeball, tag, etc. you should select “Basketball Courts”. If you want to play futsal (soccer) and rent 4×8 ft. soccer goals, choose the soccer category. If you want to do a baseball/softball theme birthday party and rent the batting cages, choose the baseball category. You can also add on the sports equipment package and skybox or training room under these categories also.

Q. Where can I celebrate with food, cake, and birthday gifts?
A. Eating and drinking is prohibited on the gym floor. When booking your reservation, you will be asked if you would like to add-on additional rooms. The training room holds up to 20 people while the sky box holds up to 30 people. Both are acceptable places to eat and drink.

Q. Will the facility attendant help facilitate games and sports?
A. No. The attendant’s role is to open/close the facility, provide sports equipment if applicable, and answer any facility related questions.

Q. How early can I arrive to set up for my birthday party?
A. You may arrive 15 minutes prior to your reservation time.

Q. If I add on the Skybox or the Training Room as a party room, do I have to clean up before I leave?

Hawk Eye Laser Tag

We will start running Laser Tag Birthday Parties and Outings in the Fall 2023.  

Hawk Eye Laser Tag Birthday Parties bring your favorite video games to life with real-time scoring, tag confirmation and feedback from accurate taggers with authentic red-dot/green-dot scopes.

Our high-tech equipment has sci-fi and arcade sounds. Laser Tag birthday parties can have up to 10 participants, age 6 and over. Birthday party participants will participate in a 75 minute session which includes a 10-15 minute safety and orientation briefing, followed by 60-65 minutes of laser tag. Staff will lead the group during laser tag.

The Skybox or Training Room will be available for 30 minutes after laser tag for cake, pizza, and/or presents led by and provided by parents. This is not a family party option. The room is set up for two parents and 10 participants. Parents can get in the Skybox or Training Room 15 minutes before their party is scheduled to start to decorate/set-up. Team placement is not guaranteed. Staff has the right to divide up the teams as they see fit. Players may be told to switch from one team to the other team to make missions competitive.

Dress in comfortable clothing and gym shoes only (no black sole shoes). Be ready for a workout!

Q. Why should I play laser tag at the Bartlett Park District?
A. This is not your traditional laser tag where players wear a sweaty vest, black lights and a vest that glows. Here we play missions. Our missions are objective based. Examples of missions are Team Elimination (Red vs. Blue), Team Domination, Fortnite Duos, Golden Tagger, Center Point Capture the Flag, Last Person Standing, and others. Taggers are very accurate. Hit confirmation and real-time feedback from your tagger. Real-time scoring, just like the video games. High-tech equipment with Sci-Fi and arcade sounds. Taggers have authentic red-dot/green-dot scopes. Be ready to get a workout!

Q. What ages can play laser tag at the Bartlett Park District?
A. The Bartlett Park District offers programming for kids, teens, and adults. The minimum age to play is six years old.

Q. Do I have to have a group of players to play?
A. The Bartlett Park District offers open play sessions. You can sign up as an individual or with a group of friends.

Q. Are there rules that participants need to follow?
A. Yes, rules included but are not limited to:
• No running
• No climbing
• No charging
• No covering up your sensors
• Have Fun!

Q. Can I choose who is on my team?
A. Team placement is not guaranteed. Staff has the right to divide up the teams as they see fit. Players may be told to switch from one team to the other team to make missions competitive.

Q. What should I wear to play laser tag?
A. Dress in comfortable clothing and gym shoes only (no black sole shoes).

Q. Are the headbands cleaned before each use?
A. Yes! The headbands are washed between uses.

Q. How many players can play at one time?
A. The Bartlett Park District has 10 taggers, and 10 players can play at one time. If you have a group that is bigger than 10 players, we can rotate players in, but it will take time to take gear off one player and put it on another player.

Q. What is included in a Laser Tag Birthday Party Package?
A. Included:
• Up to 10 participants ages 6 & older.
• 75 minutes of laser tag (10–15-minute safety and orientation briefing included in this time).
• Skybox room or the Training Room for 30 minutes for pizza, cake, and presents led by parents (this is not a family party option; the room is set for two parents and the number of laser tag participants). Pizza and cake are optional and provided by the parents. The Skybox or Training room must be left in the same shape as it was before the party. Please put all garbage in the trash can.
• Head Game Coach to lead group during laser tag.
• Private group play: the public will not be able to join your group.

Q. What does it cost to do a laser tag birthday party?
A. The cost is $215 for a Laser Tag Birthday Party.

Q. Do participants need to sign a waiver to participate at a birthday party?
A. Yes, the waiver will be sent to the birthday party renter and the renter should send it to all parents to sign and hand in to the birthday party renter when dropping off their child. The birthday party renter will hand them all into the head game coach before the group starts.

Q. What other type of groups can do a laser tag outing?
A. Other options:

• Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops
• Summer Camp
• Church Group
• Corporate Team building
• Bachelor(ette) parties
If you have more than 10 participants, you can rotate players in at the beginning of each mission.
These outings are the same cost as a birthday party.

Q. Can I decorate the Skybox or Training room for my child’s laser tag birthday party and how early can I get in the room?
A. Yes, you can decorate the Skybox or Training room for your child’s party. You can get in the room 15 minutes before the party is supposed to start. If you decorate, you must take down all the decorations and either take them with you or throw them in the trash.

Hawk Eye Laser Tag is an adventure-based mission game for ages 6 through adult.

We bring your favorite video games to life with real-time scoring, tag confirmation and feedback from accurate taggers with authentic red-dot/green-dot scopes. Our high-tech equipment has sci-fi and arcade sounds that allows up to 10 players to play at a time. A one-hour session includes a 10-15 minute safety and orientation briefing, followed by 45-50 minutes of laser tag. Team placement is not guaranteed. Staff reserves the right to divide up the teams as they see fit. Players may be told to switch from one team to the other team to make missions competitive. Dress in comfortable clothing and gym shoes only (no black sole shoes). Be ready for a workout!
